Love Letters: Should Tyrese Stop Writing Songs About His Ex-Wife?

It’s the first Love Letters of 2024! Sorry to keep y’all hanging but this year has been more stressful than a Justin Timberlake album rollout. I’m finally catching up on things.

But you didn’t come here to hear me whine about my life, I’m hear to whine about yours! Let’s pop open the inbox and see what going on in LoveLand today.

Here’s today’s question:

Did you hear about Tyrese? His girlfriend dumped him because he wouldn’t stop writing songs about his ex-wife. Was that dumb on his part, or is she overreacting?

2024 Watts

Tyrese starting out 2024 with another L? Who could have predicted such an unexpected occurrence!?

Far be it from me to be the skeptic (*cough*) but I think his upcoming album Beautiful Pain could be a good one because clearly he’s pulling from lived experiences. And honestly, that’s what all great artists do.

That’s why I’m a little torn on this situation.

If you’re a fan of this site, you already know that the best R&B comes from the worst experiences. Miserable Mary J. made classics. Fed Up Keyshia Cole was her at her best when she felt her worst. Robin Thicke had Paula, then lost Paula, then made Paula and … um, never mind, they can’t all be winners.

Anyway, It’s that … ahem, Beautiful Pain that makes beautiful music. So I can’t fault Black Ty for digging deep to create music that resonates with audiences.

But his now ex-girlfriend bouncing tells me one key thing: In her mind, Ty still isn’t over his ex-wife.

It’s one thing to draw on past experiences to pass on lessons to listeners. It’s another to constantly wallow in that past and not move on.

I don’t know Tyrese’s girl, and I certainly don’t know the man himself. If I did I’d yell at him about those horrible Transformers movies. I can’t say specifically WHY she’s so mad, nor can I assume what’s going through his head. We can only speculate, which is 99% of the Internet anyway.

But what I CAN tell you for sure, beloved reader, is that if you’re having trouble moving on from your past relationships, be open enough to talk things through with your current partner. Let them know where your head is at, be open to compromise and, most importantly, find a way to move forward together. Instead, if you’re constantly bringing up, reminiscing or comparing your current situation to your last, that Sweet Lady of yours won’t be very sweet for long.

One more question while we’re here:

I just started dating this girl and things are going well – but I just found out she has an OnlyFans. What would you do?

Content Debater

I’ve been writing about y’all’s love business for more than a decade but I think this is our VERY FIRST OnlyFans question!

Mama, I made it!

This is also the part of the post that will likely get me canceled, so let me tread lightly.

I guess it all depends on what kind of OnlyFans we’re talking about.

Is her OnlyFans a paid fitness app? (Yes, that’s a thing that exists)

Is she selling faceless feet pics to old dudes in Hungary? Or is she getting quadruple teamed like a NWO sneak attack in 1997?

Also is this post getting demonetized by the second? YOU BET.

Let me be clear when I say this to keep the weirdos out of my mentions – consenting adults can spend their money and time however they please. It’s none of my business (as long as you’re not using MY money). But in your case, you have to decide where you draw the line, and only you can answer that question.

I do commend your girl for being upfront and letting you know about her profession. I’d have a bigger issue with all this if she was being shady about it. But if you’re feeling uncomfortable or insecure about any level of this stuff (and it seems like you are) then it’s your right to move on – just like it’s her right to keep doing what she’s doing.

There’s not enough cash in the world to deal with OnlyFans stress.
