William Bell rarely gets mentioned among the great crooners of his day. But it’s Christmas, the one time of year he gets his just due. Bell’s aching harmonies are a perfect fit for this song; he sounds like he’s staring a hole through his front door, just waiting for his woman to walk in. It’s a sincerity that’s often lost in today’s music, and the type of emotion that makes this one a lost classic.
