Flashback Friday: Janet Jackson and 3T
Birmingham’s Rhythm Nation went nuts just 24 hours ago when we learned that Janet Jackson’s Unbreakable tour will be in town next May. Since Jackson fever is high, let’s honor the First Family of Pop.
Janet Jackson, Damito Jo (2004)
Janet obviously has her share of memorable albums but I decided to shout out her overlooked ’04 effort. The reviews were mixed at the time but I really enjoyed this mature, mellow Janet. Kanye West, Babyface and, of course, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced quite a few standouts. Give this one another listen, there is plenty to love here.

3T, Brotherhood (1995)
Bet y’all forgot about Tito’s boys! Lord, in the 90s, girls lost their minds as they bathed in the glow of 3T’s light-skinneded magnificence. TJ specifically had all the girls screeching — and not just because of his caterpillar eyebrows. 3T had hits though, effortlessly cranking out slow jam after slow jam. They were mentored by the best, after all. You can’t beat their pedigree.
