Flashback Friday: Faith Evans and Outkast
Maybe it’s because my brain is still in holiday mode but good lord this was a brutal week. Friday, we embrace you.
And good music makes the day so much better. Here’s what we’re rocking today.
Faith Evans, Faithfully (2001)
Fizzy recently announced that she’s planning to drop her sixth studio album, Incomparable, later this year. Hopefully it reaches the heights of her 2001 set, easily one of the most underappreciated albums of the modern era. Faith’s equally comfortable belting out ballads as she is singing over rugged hip-hop tracks. Faithfully allows her to do both expertly.

Outkast, Aquemini (1998)
Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik was the coming-out party. ATLiens shot them to the heavens. Stankonia brought mainstream acclaim. But track-for-track, Aquemini is the preeminent Outkast album. The set married West Coast funk and East Coast aggression, producing an album that’s instantly familiar but distinctly Southern. Y’all love to toss around the term “classic” these days – this is an instance where that term actually fits.
