Flashback Friday: Cannibal Ox and JS
Shout out to my overseas Soul In Stereo fans – be glad you’re not enduring the miserably frigid weather we’re dealing with in the states. The wifey and I have been snowbound in Soul In Stereo studios for days.
But snow nor rain nor gloom of the night can keep your favorite blogger from delivering the heat you deserve.
Let’s look back at two ice-themed albums that may have slipped under your radar.
Cannibal Ox, The Cold Vein (2001)
Whenever you hear endless debates about the greatest rap albums of all time, this one always seems to be forgotten. Stop sleeping on it. Can Ox’s vivid depiction of life in NY was powerful but it was El-P’s production that catapulted this collection to legendary status. Albums like The Cold Vein only come around once in a generation.

JS, Ice Cream (2003)
The ill-fated Johnson Sisters seemed to be on the verge of stardom with the backing of R. Kelly and Ron Isley in 2003. Despite endless (and I do mean endless) video spins on BET, Their 2003 album never took off. Get another taste of Ice Cream below.
