Edd’s MANtra: Lil Wayne vs Keith Sweat

Good news, music fans! MTV still plays videos!

It’s true. MTV isn’t just a graveyard for bad reality TV and award shows. If you’re lucky enough to channel surf at the break of dawn, you actually will find music on Music Television.

I know this because three times a week, I drag my ashy bones to the gym in an attempt to not look like Prof. Sherman Klump. And while my trusty iPod usually accompanies me on my workouts, every once in awhile I’ll check out MTV – just to see what the kids are into these days.

Much like smoothie-flavored Skittles, the videos are usually a stomach-turning mix of clashing flavors: teenie-boppers like Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber (which means the wifey will now be watching…); a couple of loud bands I’ve never heard of; something weird from Lady GaGa (and now Christina Aguilera); an overrated R&B song (B.o.B. has the song of choice right now); a decent hip hop song (which keeps me from totally giving up and watching “Family Matters”); and the requisite Lil Wayne track.

Earlier this week, I saw the video for “Roger That,” a Young Money song featuring Wayne and his band of trolls. Near the end of the song, Wayne spits this line:

I’m a beast, you a pet/AK long neck, Keith Sweat – HA!

Wait, wait WHAT?

I nearly fell off the elliptical. I checked out the video again online, just to be sure, and my suspicions were confirmed.

Lil Wayne got jokes.

First of all, I’ve known Keith since the 80s – we’re close, personal friends, you know – and I’ve never noticed his so-called long neck. Hmmm.

Well, I guess it is a wee bit lengthy, but that just because of his superior vocal power. He-Man has large arms because he’s always beating up Skeletor n’ dem; Beyonce has a badunkadunk because she’s always shaking it; Keith has a strong neck because he belts out hit after hit.

Like a dude that looks like THIS has any right to talk:

Don’t make me round up Johnny Gill and Teddy Riley for a diss track.
