Shawty Lo, Units in the City (2008)

As most of you know, Atlanta trap star Shawty Lo passed away this week after a tragic automobile accident. Admittedly I’ve been a big critic of his brand of hip-hop over the years, dating way back to his days with D4L and “Laffy Taffy.” Still, you can’t deny his influence on the Atlanta rap scene.

Have you checked out our post 25 Best Kanye West Beats (for Other Artists)? While that list stopped short at 25, I could have easily added an additional 25 tracks to it. Monica’s “Knock Knock” would have been a strong contender for that list. This album has gotten a bit of attention lately thanks to those So Gone Challenges that were all over our timelines – there’s no better time than now to check out the full body of work.
