Guilty Pleasures: Trey Songz, LOL Smiley Face

We all have guilty pleasures, those songs that have no business on our iPods or the tracks we only blast with the windows up. In this column I man up and share my darkest musical secrets.

When the first lines of a song are “I LUV Fisher-Price” you know things are going to go horribly wrong. But each and every time, I get sucked into listening to a grown man sing about emojis.

Yeah, yeah, I know “LOL Smiley Face,” the second single from Trey Songz’s 2009 Ready, sounds like the theme song to a Nick Jr. show. Still, it’s just irresistibly catchy – so catchy, in fact, that I’m willing to listen to it despite Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy dropping the worst lyrics known to man. Soulja pronounces “horny” as “hornin'” and then tries to rhyme “hers” with “love” – playa, at least TRY to be a decent rapper. Good lord.

This song is awful. But lord knows it’s catchy.
