Soul legend Bobby Womack dies at age 70
I have to write these obits way too often. From RollingStone.com:
Bobby Womack, the legendary soul singer whose career spanned seven decades, died Friday at age 70. A representative for Womack’s label XL Recordings confirmed the singer has died to Rolling Stone, but said the cause of death was currently unknown.
While a lot of mainstream R&B has veered away from its soul roots, we can’t overlook the contributions of legends like Womack. His career spanned decades, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 and he recorded well over 50 songs that landed on Billboard’s Top 100 and R&B charts.
Of course, this might be his best work:
Womack had dropped a critically-acclaimed album in 2012, proving that good music has no expiration date. His legend will live on.
