Listen Up: Sky Colette, 12:00 AM
About six months ago, I met up-and-coming R&B singer Sky Colette at Panera Bread. Random, I know. Anyway, she already had a growing reputation in Birmingham but y’all know me – I’m not easy to please.
That is, until she hit me with a couple of notes from Toni Braxton’s “Seven Whole Days.” That’s when I knew Sky was legit.
Sky’s current single single, “12:00 AM” is generating a deafening buzz in Birmingham. Her husky, seductive vocals are reviving the lost art of R&B ballads. “12:00 AM” isn’t ridiculously raunchy, nor does it beat the listener in the face with over-the-top sex appeal. Instead, it’s soft and sultry – perfect for a new generation of baby-makers.
Sky Colette’s youthful exuberance is bolstered by rich, husky vocals that conjure memories of Phyllis Hyman and Toni Braxton in her heyday. I’m convinced – a star is born.
R&B fans, meet your new favorite singer. Check out “12:00 AM” below. It’s a perfect way to set off your summer evenings.
