Love Letters: Seven Marriage Moments No. 5

Keepin’ it pimpin’ in Savannah, Ga

In two days, my wife and I will mark seven years of marriage. In this edition of Love Letters, I’ll be counting down the biggest moments of our marriage and how they made us stronger.

In case you missed them, here’s Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4.

Marriage Moment No. 5 – On the TLC tip

If you’ve been following along on this trip down our martial memory lane, you know that days leading up to our nuptials were pretty rough. A day after getting married we had to drive 12 hours back to my hometown of Portsmouth, Va., to attend my uncle’s funeral. He unexpectedly passed away mere days before our wedding.

After that tough time, the wife and I were due for some relaxation. We journeyed down to Savannah, Ga., for a shortened honeymoon. Beaches, mountains of seafood and lots of TLC with my favorite girl – paradise. We still relive fond memories of that trip, including a beautiful night cruise we took and the poor girl at the ice cream shop who tried to get with yours truly before sadly learning I was taken. Too late, playa.

Lesson of the day: I’ll be honest, here’s a time when I need to practice what I preach. Y’all know the wifey and I are insanely busy and we hardly ever slow down to take time for ourselves. Every couple needs time to appreciate each other and put life on hold. It’s something I definitely need to improve.

See, even I can learn from these things!
