Listen Up: D/Will

To say D/Will is the second coming of famed producer J Dilla might seem a bit presumptious, but one listen to his work and the parallels are unmistakable.


It’s easy to tell that Kansas City’s D/Will is a lifelong hip hop fan – his passion for the art resonates in every lyric he spits and thumps in every beat he crafts. It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for soulful, bass-heavy beats – D/Will’s specialty. Fans of that sound definitely will be pleased.


D/Will has had a busy year, producing projects with Dominique Larue, two projects with Stik Figa and most recently, he did most of the production on One Be Lo’s “L.A.B.O.R.” D/Will’s next project is with Les Izmore (pictured, left, with D/Will). The two will drop “The Granny Smith Theorem” on Halloween. Their first track is “Eyes in the Sky.” Download the banger here. It’s a track that would make Dilla proud.
