Listen Up: K. Sparks, “The Show Starts”

When I complain about the incessant dumbing down of hip hop, I’m often told that lyrics no longer matter these days.


I’m glad K. Sparks didn’t get the memo.


The New York rapper’s sincere lyrics, commanding tone and impeccable flow definitely remind me of the good ol’ days. K. Sparks was nominated as BET’s Artist of the Month a couple of years back and his buzz continues to grow. He’s part of a new batch of artists who emphasize substance over style.


His album, Diagnosis: Success will be available for free download Sept. 19. To whet our appetite, K. Sparks shares “The Show Starts.” I’m definitely feeling it. His partners in rhyme, Rhapsody and Laws, are pretty good too. Check out the song below.
