My Semi-Big Chop

When I went natural I never had a big chop day. Perhaps because I got relaxers so infrequently, it was easy for me to let my relaxed hair grow out slowly without suffering breakage. But in 2006 or 2007 I decided to cut several inches of my hair simply to try something new. After the initial shock of seeing what looked like pounds of my hair on the floor, I loved it and I kept my hair relatively short for the next couple of years. But I started to let my hair grow out when I moved back to Birmingham.


A few weeks ago, I felt it was time for a change and I decided to have another semi-big chop. Here I am just a day before going to the salon:

My hair was still damp when I took these photos so once completely dry my hair shrinks to be even shorter than this, but it’s a nice change especially considering how hot it is in Alabama right now.
