Edd’s MANtra: 2Pac’s Shooter Comes Forward
Huh. What a coincidence.
I just let a coworker borrow my copy of the Biggie biopic Notorious, which touches upon the 1994 shooting of 2pac. That incident sparked the feud between the megastars and fanned the flames of the so-called East Coast/West Coast hip hop beef.
Today, almost 20 years later, a man has claimed responsibility for pulling the trigger.
Dexter Issacs is the former associate of James Rosemond, better knownn as music exec Jimmy Henchman, manager of rapper Game. Issacs admitted to shooting Pac in Quad studios in 1994 under the orders of Henchman. From xxlmag.com:
“In 1994, James Rosemond hired me to rob [Tupac] Shakur at the Quad Studio,” Issac wrote. “He gave me $2,500 plus all the jewelry I took, except for one ring which he wanted for himself.”
“I want to apologize to his family [Tupac Shakur] and for the mistake I did for that sucker [Jimmy Henchman],” he continued. “I am trying to clean it up to give [Tupac and Biggie’s] mothers some closure.”
As hip-hop fans know, Tupac was reportedly shot five times on the night of November 30. It is unclear if Issac admitted to firing all five shots. The Notorious B.I.G. was also in the studio at the time of ’Pac’s attack, and Shakur believed that he had something to do with the incident, which resulted in a deadly feud between the two MCs.
Pac was later murdered in a separate shooting in 1996.
Henchman has been linked to an alleged cocaine ring and has been on the run for awhile. Henchman labeled Issacs as an informant, which Issacs vehemently denied. Those so-called false allegations convinced him to come forward about his role in 2pac’s shooting.
Issacs is currently serving a life sentence on murder and robbery convictions. Since the statute of limitations has passed on the Pac robbery and shooting, no one can be prosecuted at this time.
