Edd’s MANtra: NPR’s Great Voices

NPR has been running a very interesting list this year…

…wait, wait, wait. Before you haters open your mouth, yes, every once in awhile your boy checks out NPR. My life doesn’t totally consist of reruns of Video Soul and 80s cartoons.

…Anyway, as I was saying, all year NPR has been spotlighting 50 Great Voices. They have ranged from punk prince Iggy Pop and Ella Fitzgerald to Janis Joplin and Lauryn Hill. On Monday they highlighted the best voice of all:

Yes, the Notorious One himself. I was very pleased that the piece highlighted Biggie’s often-overlooked jazz influences. He learned diction from a jazz saxophonist. Some of today’s artists could benefit from diction classes. Seriously – it greatly improves the clarity of their work.

Check out npr.org for more great voices.

My vote for the next great voice?

Well, maybe I do watch too many 80s cartoons.
