What if Tiger’s wife was the victim?

This weekend “Saturday Night Live” had many folks of the blogosphere up in arms over a skit poking fun at Tiger Woods’ scandalous week.

The NBC sketch comedy parodied reports that Woods’ wife Elin Nordegren attacked him prior to his early-morning car accident on November 27. (Woods has denied the reports.)

Bloggers are not only upset over the show making light of domestic violence, but many writers say it was in particular poor taste considering the musical guest was pop star Rihanna.

Annie Wu at The TV Squad blog wrote:
“As soon as this sketch started, I immediately thought, ‘Oh, no! Stop the sketch! Rihanna might see.'”

Wu and others, however, are also asking if SNL would have satirized the situation had the roles been revered. Wu added:  “Had the tables been turned and a man was suspected of beating up his wife, there definitely wouldn’t be a lighthearted sketch like this. But since it’s female-on-male domestic violence, our current culture deems it kind of, sort of okay to make fun of and the scandal had to be addressed before it lost heat.”

Meanwhile, PopEater noted:

“We think, had the genders been reversed, ‘SNL’ wouldn’t make light of the potentially violent situation.”
