We love you, MJ

1958 – 2009
My mom still tells stories of me dancing around the house singing hits like “Billie Jean” when I was toddler and could barely enunciate the lyrics. Nowadays I find myself, nearly every time I’m at the gym, doing triceps dips to “Remember the Time.” And no road trip is complete without “Human Nature,” “PYT” and “Rock With You.”
Over the past decade or more, Jackson wasn’t exactly our golden boy, but like that crazy uncle that embarrasses us all at the family reunion, we loved him anyway. And we always will.

  1. It’s hard to narrow things down when he had hits like “Billie Jean,” “Bad” and “Remember the Time,” but call me crazy – my favorite MJ song is “Butterflies” from 2001. It’s so airy and heartwarming.

That’s how I’ll remember him, not as an alien Asian lady but as a master of his craft.

  2. BEN!! was my favorite still holding on to the album!!! That is when he was really good, really good!!

  3. Thriller! i use to looove that video as a child although it scared most.

  4. I remember dancing to “ABC” when I was a little kid (showing my age here!), and when “Thriller” came out, I had posters of him all over my bedroom walls.

It is so hard to pick a favorite song. I love “PYT,” “Smooth Criminal,” “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.” His ballads are lovely, but when I think of him, I think of upbeat, dancy pop songs. And the incomparable “Thriller” video.

  5. “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough!” PYT is a close second. I’m convinced my mom played a lot of MJ while I was in the womb; I love music that came out in 1979 waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much for someone born in the summer of 1980!

  6. Remember The Time is wayyy up there on my list..I Can’t Help It is another one..And the first half of the Invincible album is great too..What I remember most is how the premiere of his new videos were really World Premieres! It was like everyone stopped whatever they were doing to make sure they could see the video the first time it aired. Like that’s unheard of now. He revolutionized so many things including the music video, and no one will ever match that IMO.

  7. MJ had so many great songs that I just love…”Human Nature”, “Remember the Time”, “Man in the Mirror”, “I’ll Be There” from when he was a little boy. I would have to save my fave is “PYT!” Whenever I go out somewhere and they play that, I just dance like I haven’t danced before in life because it’s such a fun song.

And like Edd, I will remember him not as a plastic surgery case…but as an entertainer extraordinaire that laid groundwork for lots of these young cats today. Rest in Peace, Michael.

  8. if we find out he died from a bad combination of pharmaceutical drugs, I’m going to be sooooo mad. How are all these celebrities not learning from someone else’s mistake? anyway, i can remember staying up late on friday nights to watch his new music videos air on ABC. Thriller was one of my first CDs. He was awesome, but in addition to his talent, I couldn’t help but get sucked in by the gossip. he sure was some kind of a headcase.

  9. If you love music you love Michael Jackson…i didnt know how much i loved much until now.
