Edd’s MANtra: Ms. Wallace – 1, Lil’ Kim – 0

Remember when your parents said, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all?”


Clearly, Lil’ Kim never learned that lesson. And now that I think about it, neither have I, but we’ll discuss my (very, very few) faults another day.


For years, Kim has been known for two things, taking off her clothes and running her mouth about her foes. Those include Foxy Brown, Faith Evans, Shyne, Diddy, Drake, Lil Wayne, Eve, and, of course, most recently Nicki Minaj. Eh, but I can’t fault her for dissing that plastic puppet.


Kim has even badmouthed the mother of her beloved Biggie Smalls, Voletta Wallace. The Queen Bee wasn’t happy when she was depicted as a delusional groupie in the Biggie biopic Notorious, and she publicly blamed Ms. Wallace, among others. Ms. Wallace noted that Kim signed off on her film likeness and had no problem cashing the check she received, so she has no reason to complain. Mama Smalls has a point.


But this time, Kim’s mouth has written a check she can’t cash.


Last week, Monica’s her new single, “Anything (To Find You),” hit the Web. It’s produced by my girl Missy Elliott and samples Biggie’s “Who Shot Ya?” The track originally featured Kim and, ugh, Rick Ross – because every R&B radio track is required to have Ross talk about hot cars, hot women and hot wings. Anyway, when the track made it to radio late last week, Kimmie was nowhere to be found. Why? Because Ms. Wallace, who is in charge of Biggie’s estate, denied clearance of the sample unless Kim’s vocals were removed. From rap-up.com:

According to Monica, Biggie’s mother Volleta Wallace did not clear the “Who Shot Ya?” sample with Kim. “We respect all parties involved & we’re gonna do WHATEVER to keep the song as is because @lilKim the bizness on the record,” she added. “I am as thorough as they come and I LOVE @LilKim bottom line is Ms Wallace has the final say and she said No. If we put it out we get SUED.”

 

Poor Kim. Her combative past has hindered her plans for a comeback and we get to hear MORE Rick Ross. Maybe we all lose.


But let that be a lesson to us all. Karma is a cruel mistress. What you say now can hurt you later.


Hmmm, maybe even I should reconsider going off on your favorite artists, in case it hinders my career later?
