Today Mary J. Blige released her latest album, Strength of a Woman (and you can read my review here). But before we dive into MJB’s latest round of heartbreak, revisit her criminally overlooked previous album, which departed from her trademark hip-hop sound in favor of British soul. It works very, very well.

Kool Moe Dee, How Ya Like Me Now (1987)
Moe Dee was so far ahead of his time. The braggadocious and obsession with fame paved the way for bling-hungry rappers decades later. Plus, he was a trailblazer, becoming the first rapper to perform at the Grammys and was one of the first to win the award. His ’87 sophomore album is probably is biggest achievement.
