Flashback Friday: Fugees and Lauryn Hill

Today’s Flashback Friday entries come from reader Akara, who dropped off a couple of 90s classics.

Fugess, The Score (1996)

Akara calls his album “reggae meets soul and R&B alongside hip-hop,” and that’s a pretty accurate statement. When today’s artists release material that blends genres, it’s often hailed as revolutionary. Nah, the Fugees perfected that sound and it launched them to superstardom.

Lauryn Hill, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998)

Speaking of superstardom, it’s pretty easy to pick on (Miss) Lauryn these days, but in 1998 she was THE biggest star in the industry. Her incredible, soulful debut still stands the test of time.
