Flashback Friday: Krush Groove Soundtrack and Angela Winbush
We’re in an ’80s mood this week, so we dug up a couple of forgotten favorites. 80s babies, consider your day made.
Krush Groove soundtrack (1985)
I guess it’s no surprise that one of my favorite 80s movies also features one of my favorite 80s hip-hop songs. Krush Groove is sorta based on Russell Simmons and his rise to power at Def Jam Recordings but it’s mainly revered as a portrait of hip-hop’s golden era. Of course, this soundtrack shines just as brightly as those larger-than-life music stars. “Krush Groovin'” is STILL one of rap’s best anthems.

Angela Winbush, Sharp (1987)
R&B has done a great disservice to Ms. Winbush. I mean, outside of a couple of features in the ’90s, she’s been completely off the music map. Most of today’s fans aren’t even familiar with her stellar work as one half of Rene and Angela, nor do they know her 1987 debut and No. 1 single “Angel.” Angela had hits and deserves much more adoration.
