Cee-Lo Green, Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections (2002)
It can be pretty tough for a member of an established group to branch out on his or her own. But when you’re as talented as Cee-Lo, success is certain. The Goodie Mob standout’s debut album lived up to expectations, slowly branching him into the realms of soul and pop. It was the first step in Cee-Lo’s eventual mainstream stardom.

Slum Village, Detroit Deli (A Taste of Detroit) (2004)
If you haven’t checked out Elzhi’s new LP Lead Poison, you’re missing out on one of the best albums 2016 has to offer. His album put me in the mood to revisit Detroit Deli, the first Slum Village album I heard in its entirety. El has grown leaps and bounds since teaming with T3, but this album is filled with the wit that has become the hallmark of his career.
