Flashback Friday: Ja Rule and Clipse

Hey playas, welcome to Friday!

Take a break from watching Drake’s “Hotline Bling” memes and check out these hot albums.

Ja Rule, R.U.L.E. (2004)

Beware revisionist history. If you let the haters tell it, Ja Rule was always a below-average rapper who spent more time poorly singing  to women than writing hits. Save those comparisons for Mr. Hotline Bling. Yeah, Ja infected the radio with a fair share of garbage but he had some quality music too. His 2004 album was a strong return to form after years of disposable mainstream songs.

Clipse, Til the Casket Drops (2009)

My boys Clipse are revered for their debut and sophomore albums but their third set, while just six years old, is largely forgotten. By no means is Til the Casket Drops a bad album – it’s a great mix of diverse production while still boasting the lyrical gymnastics that made Pusha T and (No) Malice stars.

Also check out:

“Popular Demand (Popeyes),” featuring Cam’ron and Pharrell

“Kinda Like a Big Deal,” featuring Kanye West
