Flashback Friday: Changing Faces and DMX

We’re headed into Labor Day weekend here in the states, and I hope that means you have a long weekend.

But if you’ll still be on your work grind, I salute you. Listen to these joints to get you through.

Changing Faces, Visit Me (2000)

Changing Faces is one of the most overlooked groups of 90s — every one of their albums were strong and featured at least one memorable hit, yet they’re regulated to milk carton status these days. Their final had a couple of forgotten gems, including “Come Over,” the same song that would be jacked for Aaliyah’s posthumous album.

DMX, Grand Champ (2003)

Although my man X has a pretty storied career, his discography is pretty mediocre (minus is classic debut of course). But Grand Champ, his fifth LP, is probably his most underrated. It’s packed with hood anthems, introspective cuts and, of course, lots of threatening barking. The album was a little bloated but still enjoyable — it was the last time we heard X at his best.
