Flashback Friday: Lil Kim and Busta Rhymes

How’s your Friday looking? Hopefully a lot better after revisiting these two albums from the turn of the century.

Lil Kim, The Notorious KIM (2000)

Kim’s sophomore album was HIGHLY anticipated back in 2000 (hence the “Wanted me so bad you went and copped the bootleg” line in “No Matter What They Say.”) While it didn’t meet those lofty expectations, it  still had its share of bangers. When Kim focuses on her lyrics instead of lingerie, she can be a force.

Busta Rhymes, Genesis (2001)

I wasn’t a big fan of this album when it dropped in 2001 but I’ve come to appreciate it over time. There’s the usual mix of radio hits and hard core lyricism here but what I appreciate most is Busta’s frantic energy. In an age where everyone is content to mumble over emo beats, Busta’s aggression is refreshing.
