Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail Album Debuts in Video
Forget the NBA playoffs and the new season of True Blood, it was Jay-Z that got Twitter twerkin’ last night.
In a really cool, slick video, Jay unveiled his latest project, Magna Carta Holy Grail. See for yourself below. Jay looks very, um, excited in the screenshot. He also looks toothless.
What’s with rappers and these overblown, religious-themed album titles? Born Sinner? God Forgives, I Don’t? Yeezus?
If you have the nerve to drop an album called The Platinum Collection Plate or God Iz Gud All Da The Time/All Da Time God Iz Gud, you’d better bring your A-game.
Although Jay’s flow has been on autopilot for years now, I do have hope that his latest album will at least surpass the sheer boredom of his last solo effort.
First, check out that stable of producers. According to the vid, Timbaland, Pharrell, Rick Rubin and Swizz Beatz all have a hand in the project. That’s like the Voltron Force of hip hop production.
This would be Swizz’s robot. SHOWTIIIIME!!!!

Second, it’s been four years since Jay dropped The Blueprint 3 and, frankly, his claim to be the greatest rapper alive hasn’t held much weight lately. Nas replaced Jay on my personal G.O.A.T. list after dropping last year’s Life Is Good. And with stellar projects like Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d. city fresh in mind, you know old man Hov’s ego has to be shaken. I expect him to bring the ruckus to reclaim his spot.
Guess we’ll find out July 4.
Do you think Jay-Z’s album will put him back on top?
You know I don’t get down with rap much these days, but that video got me VERY excited about this album. I think Jay will reclaim his throne.
