Flashback Friday: TLC and Timbaland
Well, in a couple of hours, I’ll be locked in a a church sanctuary overnight with about four dozen hyperactive kids.
Pray for your boy.
Before I hang out the with kids all night and endure stories about how Future is ‘the best rapper out right now,’ I’m gonna immerse myself in music that’s actually good. I encourage you to do the same.
Amanda Burrus is on the TLC tip.
TLC, Fanmail (1999)
Amanda said: “Welp, because the T-Boz/Lisa/Chilli movie is premiering Monday, it’s only fitting to use a good ol’ TLC joint for Flashback Friday. “Unpretty” was by far (to me) their greatest song. Not because of the melodic sound or the beat but because of the meaning. This song meant so much to me as a young lady growing up. The song had so much power in its lyrics alone but then the video? That just sent me through the roof! TLC has always been an influential group but this song, I feel, took them to another level. It’s so refreshing to hear a song of this standard, one that I could relate to in my adolescent life as well as now. Love them!

Edward realizes that for Timbo and his wife, it’s too late to apologize.
Timbaland, Shock Value (2007)
Edd said: “Poor Timbo is divorcing his wife so I know it’s a tough time for him. I’d rather remember the good days, when he dropped an album that wildly exceeded my expectations. It’s a phenomenal mix of R&B, pop, rap and rock with Tim behind the boards. You can’t beat that combination.”

II by Boyz II Men. Probably my favorite R&B group of all time. Their harmonies on everything are amazing, but particularly “Water Runs Dry” and “On Bended Knee.” Find myself listening to them often.
