Edd’s MANtra: Seeing scars

Oh, now here we go again.

Just as the Chris Brown drama starts to cool down another “celebrity” starts trying to flex.

That creepy ShamWow guy done put his shoe on a prostitute. Suntimes.com says:

ShamWow pitchman Vince Shlomi was arrested Feb. 7 on felony battery charges for allegedly punching a stripper, according to the Web site TheSmokingGun.com. Police reports obtained by the site claim that Shlomi met 26-year-old prostitute Lenea Harris at a Miami nightclub, and subsequently brought her back to his room at Setai Hotel. Shlomi allegedly paid Harris $1,000 for “straight sex.”

That’s (when) things took a turn.

Shlomi told police “that he kissed [Harris] when all of a sudden [Harris] bit his tongue and would not let go,” according to the report.

That’s what he gets for being so lame that he has to buy sex. You get what you pay for. Unfortunately it didn’t end there:

Shlomi then punched Harris several times until she released his tongue, and then ran to the lobby to call police. Harris suffered several cuts and fractures to her face.

My wife has been begging for a ShamWow for years but I wouldn’t allow it. I’m not paying $25 for a freaking dust rag. And now I have an even better excuse for not buying it.

To me, the saddest part of this story is that I saw the pictures of the battered woman BEFORE I heard about the story! If you wanna see ’em, google ’em, they’re not hard to find, but I’m not posting ’em. I’m tired of seeing mutilated women. And it blows my mind how quickly the media posts pictures of these jacked-up ladies.

Poor Rihanna had her battered pictures posted online on her birthday! Now y’all know Rihanna is not on my Christmas card list but even she didn’t deserve that. And this newest victim is even worse – ol’ girl looks like she tried to kiss a ceiling fan. When a woman’s blonde hair is stained red, you know there is a problem. I can’t imagine she’d want the entire world seeing her like that.

But then again, seeing is believing. Before Rihanna’s mug shots were released, I know LOTS of people (mostly women, but that’s a conversation for later) who said “oh, I bet Chris Brown didn’t hurt her THAT bad.” Uh huh. Well, we saw otherwise.

You could make the argument that posting the pictures is a reminder of the serious nature of domestic violence. Or…you can theorize that TMZ n’ dem just wants Web hits.

What do you think? Is it important to see the aftermath of these attacks, or should those scars be a private matter?

  1. LOL! ShamWOW. Next thing you know the Snuggie man will be arrest for smothing his wife with the sleeve of his Snuggie.

It seems to me that releasing the pics does not good. I mean with the Rhianna thing people were saying she didnt get beat up before they saw the pics and when the pic was released people just forwarded them like some funny youtube video and made fun of them and some sadly said she deserved it.

So i dont know maybe the releasing of the pics help some people.

  2. Sorry I’m so late commenting on this but I feel like releasing these photos is an invasion of privacy and humiliating for the victim. Furthermore, I think they discourage other women from coming forward about abuse once they see people making a mockery of another woman’s suffering.
