Flashback Friday: PM Dawn and Jesse Powell
This week’s Flashback Friday is courtesy of my wife, who dropped off two albums she’s been on reliving lately.
I’m sure y’all remember these.
PM Dawn, The Bliss Album…? (1993)
Ah, PM Dawn. The full title of this one is The Bliss Album…? (Vibrations of Love and Anger and the Ponderance of Life and Existence), which sounds like a self-help book for the most fake deep hoteps. No slander allowed for this album though – PM Dawn were WAY ahead of their time and would dominate the scene today if they emerged in the lo-fi whisper rap era.
“Looking Through Patient Eyes”
Jesse Powell, JP (2001)
JP’s sophomore album typically gets the most love (and it should, it’s his best) but don’t sleep on his lesser-know third release. “Something in the Past” is one of Jesse’s best tracks and this album is a solid listen from front to back.
Now, it’s your turn. Email soulinstereoblog@gmail.com hit me up on Twitter @etbowser, or stop by the comments section and share your Flashback Friday album. Leave a couple of sentences describing what makes it so great. I’ll feature your album on the blog.
