Flashback Friday: Boyz II Men and Day26
Since male R&B groups have gone extinct like the Tyrannosaurus and Ecto-Cooler, let’s take this Friday to resurrect their legacy.
Boyz II Men, Cooleyhighharmony (1991)
Yesterday in the Soul In Stereo Cypher on Facebook we engaged in a spirited debate on the legacy of Boyz II Men. Admittedly, they might not have the enduring legacy of a New Edition or the infamy of a Jodeci but make NO mistake – when it comes to mainstream success B2M might be the biggest R&B act of the past 20 years. Their reign of dominance started with this debut, and as great as it is, they’d go on to top it just a couple of years later. You can’t sleep on these guys.

Day26 (2008)
And speaking of R&B groups, is it fair to call Day26 R&B’s last successful male group? Their debut album debuted at No. 1 and showed plenty of promise. Too bad these guys fizzled out before they reached their full potential.
