Flashback Friday: Eric Roberson & Phonte and Skyzoo & Torae

Happy Friday! In the spirit of teamwork, let’s look at two recent but pretty underrated collabo albums.

Eric Roberson & Phonte, Tigallerro (2016)

Yeah I know this album isn’t one of our usual throwbacks but Phonte’s sophomore solo LP dropping today it feels like the perfect opportunity to revisit this duo’s summertime sizzler. These two share an impeccable chemistry on Tigallerro, a soulful collabo that dropped out of nowhere yet wound up becoming one of the best releases of the year.

Skyzoo & Torae, Barrel Brothers (2014)

It bothers me – and saddens me too – that even the most knowledgeable rap fans seem to overlook the greatness of Skyzoo, who consistently drops incredible albums on an almost yearly basis. Chances are you probably missed him teaming up with Torae in 2014 for yet another East Coast heat rock. Simply put, Barrel Brothers is no-frills boom-bap sprinkled with soul. And y’all know that’s perfectly fine with me.
