Flashback Friday: Kelly Price and Next
In honor of the newest season of one of my favorite TV shows, TVOne’s Unsung music series, let’s pay tribute to two underrated R&B acts who were recently featured.
Kelly Price, Priceless (2003)
It’s no secret that Kelly Price’s debut, Soul of a Woman, is my favorite album of all time. OF ALL TIME. From top to bottom, it’s so perfectly crafted – from the writing down to the vocal performances. Kelly’s third album, Priceless, comes really really close to recapturing that magic.

Next, Rated Next (1997)
Oh boy. Now look playa, I have no beef with Next, nor this, their debut album. It’s a solid outing. But their massive single “Too Close” is THE most overplayed song in radio history. I NEVER WANNA HEAR IT AGAIN. I’m perfectly fine keeping their album in rotation, though, as long as I skip track No. 2.
