Flashback Friday: The Notorious B.I.G. and City High

Don’t mind me playas, I’ve spent the past 24 hours watching the Captain America: Civil War trailer on a loop.

BLACK PANTHER. Take ALLLLL my money, Marvel.

I think I’ve got just enough fanboying in me to gush over the following artists too.

The Notorious B.I.G., Life After Death (1997)

Last Wednesday we marked 19 years since we lost the greatest MC ever to grace the Earth. BIG’s final gift to us was a double-disc set that became the blueprint for subsequent albums for decades to come. Instead of sticking with one or two producers for the entire album, as was the usual standard, BIG brought in a team of superproducers to craft his scores — a trend countless artists followed. And, oh yeah, this album is crammed with memorable track after memorable track. A classic in the truest sense of the word. #RIPBIG

City High (2001)

City High had a short but relatively memorable run, courtesy of their back-to-back hits in the early ’00s. But like nearly every R&B group in existence, they imploded just as they reached their zenith. But we’ll save the drama for another time. Today, let’s just remember the hits.
