Flashback Friday: NWA and Vivian Green
Need some help wrapping up your work week? That’s what we’re here for.
NWA, Straight Outta Compton (1988)
Well this was only right. Today, “Straight Outta Compton,” the biopic of rap trailblazers NWA, finally hits theaters. It’s already been at your nearest hood barbershop for a month now, but that’s life. NWA’s explosive debut is often overshadowed by their fiery breakup but no matter — this is the album that cemented their place in American history. These song effectively told the story of black life in the inner city. Hopefully the movie conveys that equally well.

Vivian’s latest, Vivid, will be here in a few days. In honor of the occasion, let’s revisit her debut — arguably her best work. Standout single “Emotional Rollercoaster” instantly became Vivian’s signature song, but the set is packed with sultry, vintage soul.
