Flashback Friday: Blu & Exile and Skyzoo & Illmind
Ready for our weekly time capsule? This week, let’s look at a couple of very underrated rapper/producer duos. If you don’t have these albums, add them to your libraries ASAP.
Blu & Exile, Below the Heavens (2007)
You know, with hip-hop’s current obsession with its golden era, one would assume that it would catapult an artist like Blu to higher notoriety. Blu sounds like he was plucked from a mid-90s studio session with A Tribe Called Quest. Below the Heavens served as Blu’s debut and producer Exile’s sophomore album. Exile provided the jazzy backdrops, Blu provided his working man’s flow.

Skyzoo & Illmind, Live From the Tape Deck (2010)
Skyzoo and Torae dropped their solid Barrel Bros. album earlier this year but I’ll always remember their collabo of the same name from this set with Illmind. Sky is one of hip-hop’s most overlooked and poignant lyricists. He and Illmind made a formidable pair.
