Love Letters: Why Play the Sidelines?

OK playas, take a look at the guy below. You know him well.

Yeah, William Levy, the ‘iz dat mad uv choklat tu?’ guy from the M&M commercial. I’m hatin’. The wifey is in love with the guy. I bet she’s hugging her laptop monitor right now.

While I try to repair my marriage, I’m happy to help you fix your relationships. I can multitask. I just don’t have an accent like M&M guy.

Here’s today’s question:

Why is it cool nowadays to be the sideline woman or man?

KJ

Before we begin, let me define “sideline”

– Being a mistress, or just a girlfriend on the side.

“My God, after sexing Mandy, Jake went home to his wife; Guess she’s his new sideline ho.”

Um, thank you, urbandictionary.com. I guess.

Growing up, I thought the sideline phenomenon was just isolated to high school drama. You know, the girls so desperate to get with the basketball star that she’ll accept being the woman on the side. I assumed women – and men – would grow out of that ridiculous mentality.

I also assumed people would grow out of listening to horrible rap music, but this dude has one of the hottest songs in the country.

He looks like human broccoli. Wearing cheese.

Yes, even as adults men and women are OK with being the guy/girl on the side. Why? Well, most think that if they keep hanging on, eventually the object of their affection will drop their official beau and run to their side. It’s the dumbest – and most dangerous – mindset I’ve ever encountered. If you’re a sideline chick/dude that means the person you’re chasing OBVIOUSLY has no problem cheating in their relationship. Why are you trying to date a cheater?

What’s most damaging is that it shows the sideline has little self-respect. That person needs to realize they’re worthy of more than being someone’s occasional plaything.

Read my lips words: Turning a sideline fling into a relationship will not work. Pairing a person with a low-self esteem with a practicing cheater is a disaster in the making.

Stop playing the sideline and get a real relationship. You’re worth it.
