Listen Up: gaVen heVy, “Crab Legs”
I’ve been accused right here on this very blog of not giving new sounds a chance.
“The 90s aren’t coming back, Edd.”
Yeah playa, I get it. Time has passed me by. But don’t be mistaken, it’s not so much the sounds I miss. It’s the focus and hunger of those ’90s classics that have become a lost art.
Well, gaVen heVy has that hunger. And he’s can’t wait to tear into some “Crab Legs.”
The 22-year-old is part of INeverRapped2BCool, a hip-hop movement based in Brooklyn. “Crab Legs” features production by the criminally underrated Jake One and gaVen sounds right at home in the midst of its dusty vocals.
Is boom bap rap making a comeback? Probably not, but gaVen heVy gives me hope that skills are now back in style. He’s got the hunger. Check out “Crab Legs” below.
