This weekend the world of show business lost one of its brightest stars. Actress Beatrice Arthur died of cancer Saturday at age 86.
Arthur became a household name with the groundbreaking ’70s TV series Maude but you all probably knew her best as Dorothy from the hit show The Golden Girls.
In my opinion that show was one of the best things to ever happen to television. Golden Girls was hilarious and touching and celebrated female friendship and independence. It’s the original Sex and the City only more clever and with more heart.
According to People, Dan Watt, a spokesman for Arthur’s family, told the Associated Press that Arthur died peacefully at her Los Angeles home with her family by her side. He remembered Arthur as “a brilliant and witty woman,” as do we all.
Pour out a lil’ for Dorothy.
Golden Girls is perhaps the best sitcom of all time. In my humble opinion, of course.
I heart Bea Arthur (and I agree, Golden Girls is a most excellent show).
Bea was also a brilliant, hilarious stand-up comedian. I was so, so sad to hear about this.
