7 Reasons I’m Glad I Watched the Oscars

I recognize that the Oscars is not the most exciting awards show on television. But I love movies so I sit through it every year. Here are seven reasons I’m glad I didn’t miss the Academy Awards last night.
1. NPH!

2. The hosts. Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were hilarious and their senses of humor seemed to rub off on the show’s writers. I think this was the first year I ever laughed out loud while watching the Oscars.

3. The conversation that took place at Georgia Mae headquarters during the award for best original song. After hearing a snippet from “The Weary Kind” (Theme from Crazy Heart) Edd says, “Oh that’s going to win because it sucks. The boring songs always win.” A few seconds later “The Weary Kind” was announced the winner.

4. The amazing dance performance in honor of the nominees for best original score.

5. Mo’Nique took home the Oscar for her remarkable performance in Precious and gave a heartfelt, yet classy acceptance speech in which she thanked the Academy for giving the award based on performance, not politics

6. I had the opportunity to witness the first woman win the award for best director. Kathryn Bigelow’s film The Hurt Locker won best picture, too. Congrats!
7. This final line from Steve Martin: “This show is so long that Avatar now takes place in the past.”

This is why I’m the music editor.
