Why Did I Get Married?

Today music guru and I celebrate 4 years of marriage. Actually we started celebrating last weekend with a trip to Louisville, the city where we met and became husband and wife. Last month I ran into an old college friend and we started talking matrimony. He told me about how miserable all his married friends are. He was shocked when I told him that I actually enjoy playing wifey.

We live in a society with a very down with love attitude, and with good reason. Most marriages end in divorce. Adultery is as common as pollen in spring and many couples sticking together will admit they’re only doing so for the sake of their kids. But I believe that if you commit yourself to the right person marriage can be a beautiful thing. I know four years isn’t a very long time. Edd’s grandparents have been married for more than 60 years. We, obviously, have a long way to go. But I have hope that we’ll get there.

Before road trips Edd and I make sure our iPods are fully charged to help us get through the journey, but on our way back from Louisville this weekend both our little Apple gadgets were silent. Instead we talked to each other for the entire drive. That wasn’t the first time we’d done that, but it’s nice to know that after being married for four years and after knowing each other for nearly eight years we can still talk for six hours and actually enjoy it. Little things like that show me that Edd is my best friend and that’s exactly why I married him.

Happy anniversary, sweetie.
